Styles and what you get
The generator formats the video in four styles: APA 7th, MLA 9th, Chicago 17th, and Harvard. Each comes with a full reference-list entry and an in-text citation. Add an optional timestamp (MM:SS or HH:MM:SS) to cite a specific moment, which is useful when quoting.
Check the date before you submit
The generator doesn’t have the video’s upload date, so it fills in the current year as a placeholder. APA, MLA, and Chicago expect the date the video was published. Replace it with the upload date shown under the video on YouTube. Harvard also includes the date you accessed the video, which is filled in with today’s date.
Other things to verify
- Author: styles cite the channel name as the author. If the speaker is a different person, some instructors want them named; check your course or journal guidance.
- Title capitalization: APA uses sentence case for video titles, while MLA and Chicago use title case. Adjust the title if your style requires it.
- Italics: reference lists often italicize the video title. Formatting is lost when pasting plain text, so re-apply italics in your document.
- Your institution’s rules win. Style guides get local variations; when they conflict with a generated citation, follow your instructor or publisher.
